Where to travel from Poland on a budget — top destinations 2026

Holidays in 2026 don't have to wreck your budget. From Poland you can fly cheaply to dozens of destinations — from the Tatras and the Balkans to off-season Egypt. Real prices, best dates and routes that genuinely pay off.

1. Cheapest of all — holidays in Poland

Poland offers places that would cost three times more in Western Europe. Paradoxically the cheapest option — no flight tickets, no currency exchange, no non-EU travel insurance.

Tatras and Morskie Oko

A classic Polish holiday. Train Warsaw to Zakopane around 70 PLN, B&B accommodation from 80 PLN/person. Peak season is July-August, but September and October are more beautiful and half the price — fewer crowds, autumn colours, crystal-clear weather.

Mazury Lake District

A week of kayaking down the Krutynia river from 1,200 PLN/person, including equipment and accommodation. Best window: May-June (before mosquitoes) or September (silence and warm water).

Tricity and Hel Peninsula

The Baltic off-season (June, September) — apartments at 150-200 PLN/night. The same places cost 400+ PLN in July. Sopot, Gdynia, Hel, Jastarnia — see it all in 4 days with a backpack and a bike.

Bieszczady

The cheapest mountains in Poland. Farm stays from 60 PLN/person, authentic Carpathian cuisine and almost no crowds. Perfect for those wanting to escape civilisation without a visa or a flight.

2. Neighbours — by bus or car

Slovakia

The Slovak Tatras are often cheaper than the Polish ones. A 3* hotel in Tatranská Lomnica costs 200-300 PLN/night, food is 30% cheaper than in Poland. Drive time roughly 3 hours from Kraków, 6 hours from Warsaw.

Czech Republic

Prague in November or February: flight from Warsaw 200-400 PLN, hostel 80 PLN/night. Český Krumlov and Bohemian Paradise — perfect for a long weekend, 5 hours by car from Wrocław.

Germany (Berlin, Dresden, Leipzig)

FlixBus from Warsaw to Berlin from 89 PLN one way. Dresden can be done in 2 days, hotels from 250 PLN. Germany is pricier than the Czech Republic, but world-class infrastructure and museums.

Lithuania (Vilnius)

12-hour bus for 100 PLN, or a flight from Warsaw around 250 PLN. Vilnius itself is charming and cheap: lunch 30 PLN, taxi 15 PLN, UNESCO-listed Old Town. Great for a weekend.

3. Cheap Europe by air

The cheapest flights leave from four Polish airports: Warsaw Chopin, Kraków, Katowice and Modlin (mostly Ryanair). Modlin is often the cheapest gateway to Spain, Italy and the UK.

Golden rule of cheap flights

Buy 6-8 weeks before departure, fly on Tuesday or Wednesday instead of weekends — the difference is easily 200-400 PLN per person. Booking very early (4-6 months ahead) is often more expensive than the 8-week sweet spot.

4. Further afield, still cheap — outside Europe

Egypt (Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Sharm el-Sheikh)

All-inclusive week November-March from 2,500 PLN/person including flights. A frequently chosen destination for families with children. The Red Sea — water at 24°C even in December, well-known for snorkelling within reach of Europe.

Turkey (Antalya, Bodrum, Alanya)

May and September: a week of all-inclusive 4* from 2,800 PLN. July-August is hot (35-40°C) and pricier. Antalya — most hotels; Bodrum — pricier but prettier and more European feel.

Tunisia

An underrated destination. June, all-inclusive with flights from 2,200 PLN. Beaches in Hammamet and Sousse, Sahara inland, excellent cuisine.

Georgia (Tbilisi, Batumi)

Flight 800-1,200 PLN, but life there is very cheap: hotel 100 PLN, lunch 30 PLN, wine 15 PLN per bottle. Perfect for 10 days at 3,000 PLN total. No visa for up to 1 year, brilliant cuisine, Caucasus mountains and famous hospitality.

5. How to find genuinely cheap deals

Instead of opening 10 tabs of comparison sites and losing hours, it is more efficient to use an aggregator of current travel deals. The travel offers catalogue brings together package tours, travel insurance, hotels and flight tickets from the largest Polish travel agencies and booking services in one place — with up-to-date prices and discounts.

Three observations on cheap holidays

1. Date flexibility — shifting your trip by 3 days can drop the price by 30%.
2. "Summer" in November-March for warm destinations (Egypt, Turkey, Canary Islands) — weather still ideal, prices half the high-season rates.
3. Travel insurance is worth considering before the trip — current offers from several insurers can be compared in the travel insurance catalogue.

Cheap travel from Poland — frequently asked questions

When is the best time to buy summer 2026 flights?
6-8 weeks before departure. Earlier reservations (4-6 months ahead) are sometimes more expensive — prices drop most steeply in the 8-to-4-week window. Last-minute deals (1-2 weeks) are extreme: either a real bargain or very pricey.
How does an all-inclusive package differ from a self-organised trip?
All-inclusive packages (flights + hotel + meals) are a popular choice for destinations such as Egypt, Turkey or Tunisia — total prices are often comparable to organising the trip yourself. For many European destinations (Italy, Spain, Balkans, Portugal) travellers often prefer DIY: low-cost flight (Wizz Air, Ryanair) + Booking.com / Airbnb + a local rental car. The choice depends on personal preferences and trip type.
What does a typical travel insurance policy cover?
Polish travel insurance policies typically include medical costs (KL), accident insurance (NNW), third-party liability (OC) and baggage insurance — with various sums insured depending on the package, destination and trip duration. Some activities (e.g. extreme sports, skiing, diving) may require separate riders. The exact scope is set out in the General Terms and Conditions (OWU) of each specific policy. This article does not constitute insurance advice — current offers can be compared in the travel insurance catalogue.
Do I need a visa with a Polish passport for popular destinations?
In the Schengen zone — no, an ID card is enough. Egypt, Turkey, Tunisia — visa on arrival or e-visa online (~30 USD). Georgia — no visa for up to 1 year. United States — requires ESTA online (~21 USD), valid for 2 years. United Kingdom — from 2025 requires ETA online (~10 GBP).
Which is cheapest: flying from Warsaw, Kraków or Modlin?
Modlin — cheapest for Ryanair (Italy, Spain, UK, Scandinavia). Kraków — often cheaper to southern Europe (Balkans, Italy). Katowice — good for Germany and Benelux. Warsaw Chopin — best choice for destinations beyond Europe (Egypt, Turkey, Asia, USA).
Which destinations are popular for family trips with kids?
Frequently chosen family destinations include: Egypt (all-inclusive, animators, beach), Turkey (Antalya — many hotels with aquaparks), Bulgaria (shallow sea, short flight, low prices). In Europe: Croatia's Istria (quiet, clean sea) and Albania (still very cheap, family-style cuisine). For winter break: Slovakia (local ski prices typically lower than in Poland).
